IV. Explore the Salt Mine in Wieliczka like a miner:
We invite adults and children (over the age of 10) for an unusual trip.
Dressed in workwear clothes, fully equipped with mining gear, you will
descend in the dark into the oldest mining shaft called Regis. The guide,
here called the Foreman, will assign you to a mining job and tasks
and evaluate their performance. You will become a novice miner, who
takes the first steps in the demanding job. You will measure the level of
methane, learn how to track and transport salt, set the route and explore
unknown chambers. You will get familiar with everyday underground
routine, secrets of mining traditions and rites. You will experience
firsthand the hardship of mining. Sightseeing takes about 3 hrs in groups
of up to 20 people, so it’s worth booking in advance! Great fun for
organized groups and individual tourists.
Important: The tour starts promptly. It takes about 3 hrs in groups of up
to 20 people. It’s an active way of sightseeing and requires intense
muscular effort. The trail is not linked to the tourist route and its
chambers (such as the Chapel of Saint Kinga). Sightseeing possible only
under the supervision of a guide. The trail is available for people over the
age of 10. Underage accompanied by an adult. Tourists receive protective
overalls and mining equipment: a lamp, an absorber, and a helmet.
Warm clothing and comfortable, waterproof boots are
indispensable. The temperature underground ranges from 14° to
16° C. You go down to the mine in a lift to level I (57m) and up from level
II (101m). You mustn’t smoke, use the open fire or electric torches
in the mine!
